The List Friendship Ring story

Page nine, includes the passing of the Ring from the Warrior to Typodragon.

And, Oh Me, Oh My, even MORE drenching of newbies!

Adrienne Fri, 20 Feb 1998 11:36pm

Adrienne slips back in to the Halls of Mist after a long, hard week of tests, papers, and lab reports. She knows that the Friendship Ring is supposed to be passed soon again; she does not want to miss that! For her return to the party, she has donned a long, crushed velvet dress, the color of red wine.

It has been storming in Tucson, where she lives, and is cold. The Halls adjust the temperature to whatever is necessary for the individual, so someone could wear heavy wool robes and another could wear, well, practically nothing, and both would feel comfortable in the same room. That is a bit of magic she wishes she could apply to her own living place!

She decides not to dance this time, or not yet anyway. She spots a dragon relaxing in the corner of the room. The image recalls memories of when she was a child, and would play with dragons in their realm. _I'll go over and speak to her_ Adrienne thinks to herself. _It has been a long while since I've spoken with a dragon._ So, Adrienne makes her way to the corner, bringing sheep that will lick the dragon clean of the jelly and some towels in the shape of sheep, just to make sure she is no longer sticky.

Yvonne Shadowshape Sat, 21 Feb 1998 12:30am

"Seashimmer! I was wanting to talk to you! I thought that your name was wonderful!" Smiling, she catches a tree limb and swings herself up to face Seashimmer, who lookes worriedly at her bucket.
"No, sorry, it's empty. No worries!"
Seashimmer smiles as the Kelpie-Lady comes over to talk to her "Don't worry I'm not afraid of your bucket. I -like- saltwater. I was just worried about what you would do to newbies now that you didn't have your bucket," she clarifies a bit. "I'm glad you like my name. It's the 'sea' part, right? I like your title, but do you have a name?" She's talking a little fast, but that's pretty normal. Those who think she's quiet just don't know her very well.

"Sorry for not introducing myself properly! I am Yvonne Shadowshape!" Yvonne bows slightly from her place in the tree, her dress rustling slightly. "And I do like the sea part - but the rest of it is just as important. And if my eyes are not decieving me - THERE'S A NEWBIE! Care to join me in my drenching? It's a tough job for just one little person like me. I would be honored if you would help!" With that, another bucket appears in Seashimmer's startled hands as Yvonne jumps down off her branch and races towards the building, obviously expecting her to follow.

Not that I'm sad to be here, of course... just startled! Well, at least I came prepared for dancing! I'm all dressed up for a party, so here goes!* She walks out into the light, expecting a good drenching, and decides to just talk to whoever comes up to her *Hey, I'm still shy!*

Yvonne slows her pace as she nears Dre... and suddely realises that Dre is shy! *Humm... maybe a drenching isn't what's called for...* With a slight frown of concentration, she flicks a dark reddish brown wet lock of hair out of her eyes and holds her hands slightly apart. Deciding to be a little less showy than she was when she made her arrival, Yvonne conjurs up a small, aquatic sheep who looks up at her trustingly with watery eyes. *Well, now that you are here, I guess that I had better present you to the appropriate party!* With that she scoops up the sheep in her arms (disregarding the fact that she is getting sopping wet doing so) and marches up to Dre.

"Welcome to the Misty List, Listsib!" She says with a smile, her hazel eyes crinkling up slightly at the corners and a drop of water inching it's way down the side of her face. "I got the inkling that you were a wee bit shy, so I decided to forgo the usual drenching routine and present you with this." She holds out the sheep, who, upon seeing Dre, struggles to get out of her arms. Laughing, Yvonne lets it go, and it immediatly presses up againsed Dre's side, making her pants as wet as the Kelpie-Lady's dress.
"Hope you enjoy yourself!" And with that, she disappears back into the crowd, leaving behind a wet sheep and a puddle on the ground.

"Oh, bother, " Dax said, "I've missed everything! Where's A bucket of seawater when you need one? My hair's a mess and my dress is muddy....and..."
she trails off, elf sense kicking in and overwhelming her snit. "Why I do believe that some of my estranged children are in attendance. Well, quit laughing and tell me where to change...."

"Be careful what you wish for, Dax, because you may just get it!!!" SPLOSH!!! And with that (as well as total disregard of her safety - both Dax the Eternal and the Lady of the Water-Borne are fellow deities, after all, so why should she worry about divine retribution?) Yvonne executes an elegant bow and walks back off into the dance.

Silly humans. With a chuckle and a deep bow of gratitude for the sincere, albeit sticky, honor, she conjures a small shield to protect her computer and backpack from the drips (magic does have a few practical uses, after all ;) and stands to find some of that ever-present salt water to wash of with...

SPLOSH!! "I don't believe that I have ever doused a dragon before." Says someone to Typo's right. She turns to find a short, slim, dripping wet Kelpie-Lady swinging a bucket between her hands. "Welcome to the Misty List! Hope you enjoy yourself - and while you're here, could you try to do something about my keyboard? The keys are sticking - especially the 'n' key." She smiles up at the bluey dragon before her. And then her eyes sharpen, seeing a familiar face in the croud, no doubt. "And I am very sorry for running off like this - but I really have to say hello! Goodbye, and hope I see you again soon!" With that, she dissolves into a puddle that seeps through the cracks in the floor and out of sight.

Slowly Yvonne materialises out of a puddle on the floor, slowly, slowly, carefully, she creeps up behind her friend Sorana, the Goddess of Flions, and suddenly:

" B O O !!!"

Andi Sat, 21 Feb 1998 4:33 a.m.

The flower fairy jumps up from her chair, her bodhran vanishing in a flash. She thanks the flute-player for the lovely set, and jumps up to the Karaoke machine to see if they have "Yellow Submarine"... she presses the button, and is informed that her request will be played in 20 minutes, and thank you and have a good day. *Hmmm* she thinks, *Happy Karaoke machines... what's next?* [G]

While standing there, pondering the existence of Karaoke, she feels something brush up against her leg. She looks down to find herself looking into the eyes of a one-eyed cat... her one-eyed cat which had followed her from Mundania.
"Winky, how did you get here?"
The cat just mewed.
"Well, stay close to me and don't get stepped on"
Winky gave her a *what do you think I am, a rug?* look...
She laughed and petted the cat, who just purred...

As she strolled through the room, looking for people to talk to, she overheard someone say "transfer the ring tomorow..."
*My goodness! has it really been that long? It seems like yesterday!* She peers around...*Hmm... I haven't seen the warrior lately...I hope she's having a good time...*

Ana Sat, 21 Feb 1998 6:36 a.m.

Ana looked around, spotted ILI, and *yelled* for her.
"Yes, is wanting something?"
"Yeah, I got a busy weekend, can you and Ilia take over the board for a bit"
"Can do!"

Shadowblade Sat, 21 Feb 1998 9:06 a.m.

*Hmmm* she thinks,*Happy Karaoke machines... what's next?* [G]

Blade takes a break from dancing (ShadowWolf was looking Tired) to take over Ana's Karaoke-ing job.
"Happy Karaoke Machine-players? Thanx Flower fairy! You just saved me tonnes of work. People, due to the great suggestion by the Flower Fairy, we now have an automated Karaoke machine and a DJ set. Since Ana and I(I have a chinese test to study for!) will be busy over the weekend, this arrangement will last over this weekend. From now on, just key in your selection into the darned machine and wait for the voice intro!"

the Warrior Sat, 21 Feb 1998 2:47pm

The Warrior sneaks back into the Hall of Mist. She enjoyed the dicussion about Lendel's Repudiation, and other topics that stemmed from it, but other duties had forced her to leave the Hall for a bit.

She looks again at the plain band of silver, gold, and platinum on her finger. She has enjoyed wearing this Ring for the past week, now it is time to pass it on to another.

A dragon with a laptop in the corner caught her eye. The dragon's still dripping with water, with some red jam left here and there. *Another 'victim' of Torell and Yvonne then,* the Warrior thought, an amused smile plays on her lips. *Well, I hope the Ring would fit her claws.*

The Warrior approaches the dragon--Typodragon--and greets her. "Hi there," she says. "We haven't been formally introduced, but I've heard your input on the genetics and Gifts discussion. Very insightful. I hope with this Ring, you will feel more welcome and relaxed here in the Hall of Mist. share your thoughts with us.

She takes off the Ring from her hand and puts it on Typo's claw. As she does so, she speaks the words of magic, "The ring is yours to wear and enjoy. At the end of the approaching week, I ask, however, that you pass this ring on to someone else on the list to spread the enchantment of friendship. And in the giving you will receive back threefold what is given. My thanks, Typodragon, for what you have added to the list. May you enjoy the ring and give it in friendship."

When she finished, to her wonder, on her own hand appears three rings--gold, silver, and platinum.

Shadowdancer Sat, 21 Feb 1998 3:29pm

Shadowdancer enters the hall, with Lurker close behind, to see that the Ring has been passed to a dragon with a laptop computer.
She wanders over to the dragon "Congratulations! I hope you wear the Ring in good health, and friendship." The startled dragon looks around in suprise, "Why th- th- thank you.'

"You are most well come to our little party." Shadowdancer says to the draggon as she turns to the Warrior and says "And that was well done! Now I am off to dance the week away. See you later."

With that Shadowdancer slips into the crowd to dance, have fun, and forget about all the work that she must needs attend to.

Seashimmer Sun, 22 Feb 1998 05:24am

"Sorry for not introducing myself properly! I am Yvonne Shadowshape!" Yvonne bows slightly from her place in the tree, her dress rustling slightly. "And I do like the sea part - but the rest of it is just as important. And if my eyes are not decieving me - THERE'S A NEWBIE! Care to join me in my drenching? It's a tough job for just one little person like me. I would be honored if you would help!" With that, another bucket appears in Seashimmer's startled hands as Yvonne jumps down off her branch and races towards the building, obviously expecting her to follow.

Seashimmer blinked as the very active woman finished her speech at top speed and ran off in the direction of some newbies. ::Must be a lot of work:: she thought to herself, as she moved to follow. Saltwater-drenching sounded like fun, though. Well, to her at least; she was sure others wouldn't feel that way. After three drenchings, she finally caught up with Yvonne. "You forgot something" she said with a grin "I need a bucket! Do you have a spare on hand?"

ShadowWolf Sun, 22 Feb 1998 6:13am

ShadowBlade makes some kind of gesture with her fingers and mutters a few arcane words. Suddenly, ShadowWolf is no longer wearing the uncomfortable formal robes that he came to the hall of Mists wearing. Instead he is now attired in his comfortable black buckskin shirt and trousers. "Thanks 'Blade I owe you one."

ShadowWolf tells her that he is growing fatigued from all the dancing. In reality he is feeling more than a little uncomfortable with all the sheep and strange wolves about in the hall. The reason is, he is a shapeshifter that takes the form of a silver wolf at will (most of the time). At the moment, his wolfish side is growing more and more unmanageable. He doesn't know how long he can maintain his rapidly diminishing control. "Maybe if I go out into the garden I'll be able to contain myself." he thinks. As ShadowBlade moves back over to the DJ booth, ShadowWolf retreats to one of Cennyyd's prize winning formal gardens.

June Sun, 22 Feb 1998 4:16pm

"Sorry for not introducing myself properly! I am Yvonne Shadowshape!" Yvonne bows [snippety]- THERE'S A NEWBIE! Care to join me in my dreching? ... Yvonne jumps down off her branch [snippety] ... Saltwater-drenching sounded like fun, though. [snippety] "You forgot something"...

Pointing, she looks at a NEWBIE. "Watch out, Yvonne." Saltwater splashed off Yvonne hitting her in the face. At the astonished look on her companion's face, she bursts out laughing. "Oh, look at you! We are going to have such fun with this NEWBIE. Hey, there's two more. Hey, newbie, you want to join us in a drenching? After all you did bring your own bucket!"

Megan Sun, 22 Feb 1998 9:49pm

Megan looks around and catches sight of June and another Newbie whose name has just this minute been lost in the black hole caused by over active delete fingers Bad finger, Bad! Bad! She summons her wonderful Golden Retriever, Puck (who from time to time agrees to sink to the depths of sheepdog status) who herds the three Newbies closer together where they simply mill around for a moment until POUNCE, POUNCE, POUNCE and Megan looks around with a satisfied grin. Welcome to the Misty list and all it's crazy ness.]

June Sun, 22 Feb 1998 11:54pm

Megan looks around with a satisfied grin....

SUDDENLY, her smile briefly froze. A NEWBIE, June, yeah that was her, had right at the second POUNCE lept into the air to land on the back of the intensely working Lab. So eagerly acting in his role as a sheep dog, and not to disappoint her, he allowed himself to briefly lower himself to the role of sheep dog. In all his single mindedness of determination, he failed to notice the last NEWBIE wasn't beneath his feet.
Barking uproarously, he ran back to Megan carrying June on his shoulders. Stopping, the Lab stood quivering as the NEWBIE June smiled. "HI MEGAN. Great to meet thee..."
Thanks for the Welcome. Love this place.

Chayla Tue, 24 Feb 1998 5:40am

Chayla turned to the woman in the slippered feet. "I would be most pleased to dance a quick reel with a fellow Misty lover. I will confess ahead of time though, I am a bit fatigued from healing a wounded hawk. I may not be as swift on my feet as I usually am."

With the pleasantries ou of the way, she bowed to the Ladyknight and made her way to the dance floor.

The music was loud and boisterous and the mood of fun gaiety was infectuous. Soon, she found herself lost in the music. The beat pounded through her body and she couldn't help but laugh heartily.

"This is the most fun since the equinox feast in Staryn Vale." Lani looked at the black clad warrior strangely and Chayla shrugged. "It was a little get together we had back where I come from."

A while later, the song ended and she bowed to her partner. "It was a pleasure dancing with you, perhaps another time?" With that, Chayla moved off the dance floor to mingle with the others.

Chayla noticed a few, actually more than a few, wet characters around the hall. *I wonder what happened to them?* She moved closer to the sound system to mingle with the other listsibs. Perhaps now that she was more comfortable, she could introduce herself to a few other of the interesting people in the room.

Carson Wed, 25 Feb 1998 12:29am

The rather startled minstrel blinks as a mic materializes out of thin air in front of her. Hearing the wailing that signals the intro to "All Soul's Night", she figures she's up for karaoke. Sending a quick prayer to the Goddess of Music and Song for help in emulating the incredible Loreena (as well as a guilty apology for deserting the White Hall earlier), she starts the descant in a clear, ringing, incredibly delicate soprano.

As she glances up, she sees a shimmering figure regarding her from the top of the staircase. Without warning, a rich bell-like alto lends harmony and depth to the song, as a shimmering, high, flute-like voice soars high above the main melody, supporting and twining about the minstrel's increasing rich soprano like ivy about an oak. Delighted, the minstrel pours herself into her performance with strength and emotion, singing as never before. When she finishes, she realizes that the entire Hall has gone silent, before erupting into applause. The minstrel bows formally, and glances up, wondering how the Goddess managed to sing two parts at the same time - if indeed that *was* the Goddess of Music and Song.

*Well done, Lady Minstrel!* says a bell-like voice only she can here. *Be known that you are now a Minstrel of the Goddess of Music and Song!*

Catsai Wed, 25 Feb 1998 11:56pm

A portal opens up behind Catsai and a violet-skinned, black-haired woman looks through. "Catsai!" she snaps. "You don't have time to dance! Get back here!"

Catsai pivots to face Ravenwing. "I fell through one of your portals. It's not like I had much of a choice," she points out.

"Never mind that now, just get back here! Let's go!" Ravenwing shouts, ducking back through the portal. Catsai glances around, hoping no one notices the portal, then sighs and follows.
