Alphabet Soup 5/13

"Emma, I--"

"Just shut up and give me the damned script." Frost snapped.

"Whoa, Frosty's gonna sing?" Jubilee cackled, then popped another stick of gum into her mouth.

"Ach, lass, let the woman be." Sean said grabbing Jubilee's arm when she made to follow Emma and Val. The other members of Generation X were either snickering or looking in shock after their erstwhile teacher.

"She can sing?" Paige breathed.

In the studio, Val let Emma do it all her own way.

"I, stand up straight and tall,
I, never bend at all.
I, important.
I, incredible.
I, dot the top and I will always
Be the same.

"I, think of one thin line.
I, tall and straight and fine.
I, innocent.
I, intelligent.
I, I like I.

Emma nearly broke into laughter at the word innocent, but stopped. "And I like all the 'I' words like 'icicle' and 'ice cream' and 'idea', and also the words that begin with the other 'I' sound like 'igloo' and 'insect' and 'if' and 'interim', but don't forget 'ice cream'!"

Frost took a deep breath and sang again,
"I, think of one thin line.
I, tall and straight and fine.
I, incoherent--not.
I, intelligent.
I, I like I." Emma stopped. "Cut. That's a wrap."

Val nodded. "Yes, thank you, Emma."

"Well, I certainly couldn't NOT do it. Besides, it was rather fun. And I'll deny that until the day I die." She added, her eyes gleaming.

Chuckling, Val joined her in exiting the studio and went to look for her next victims.

----

Peter Parker looked at the script Val had handed him and choked on something half resembling a laugh and half resembling a shriek of rage. "I--"

"Just think about it, ok? Please?" The puppydog look Val was giving him made him smile and nod. She scampered away and he shook his head, muttering. "J. Jonah..."

----

"Ma'am?"

"Hrm?" Natasha finished the rest of the paragraph and looked up questioningly. A young redhaired woman stood there, shifting from foot to foot a bit uncertainly. One of the X-children from her uniform. Siryn, her mind supplied a second later.

"Ms. Cooper--Val--sent me to ask ye to help on this next skit." The girl carefully stated. Her eyes were a bit wary, and the look in them also said she wasn't sure if the esteemed spyess, the Black Widow, would join them.

"What letter is it?" Natasha asked, stalling.

"J."

[J...J...] She shook her head, then nodded. "All right. I owe Cooper a bit."

"Oh, thank you." The relief that showed on Teresa Cassidy's face made Natasha shrug, then stand up.

----

Siryn had snuck up and caught Everett's arm, dragging him off before any of the others could stop her. They'd all shrugged. The red-haired X-Forcer probably wanted him to open a can of beans or something. For soup.

Everett Thomas didn't even bother to protest. "Yes." he said in response to Val's question. She grinned and swept them all to the studio.

----

Peter nodded at the technician and began speaking, "A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I...Hey, you know what letter comes after I?"

"J!" Cried the other three.

"Right. And whenever I think of the letter J, I think of all my friends whose names begin with the letter J like..."

And he began to sing,
"J, Jonah Jameson
Got himself a newspaper full of journalist beans
J, Jonah Jameson's Journey beans
Hey, let's sing a song about J!"

"Hey, you know," Natasha announced brightly. "I've got a friend whose name begins with J, too."

"Is that right?"

"Yeah. Let me tell you about her." And she sang, her voice lovely and husky at once.

"J, Jubes, jumping Jubes
Joking and a-paffing
That's just like Jubes."

"J, Jubes, paffing Jubes
J, Jonah Jameson's Journey beans
Hey, let's sing a song about J!" The others chimed in.

"Hey, ya know what, guys?" Ev announced.

"What's that?" Natasha asked.

"I've got a J friend, too."

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah!"

"Tell us about him."

Everett Thomas' voice was neither excellent nor execrable. It was merely even-toned,

"J, Jono, he's tall and slim
He likes to guitar-jam,
let's join with him."

"J, Jono, let's jam with him,
J, Jubes, well, let's paff with Jubes,
J, Jonah Jameson's Journey beans,
Hey, let's sing a song about J!" Joined the others on the chorus.

"I've got one, too. My friend, Jimmy." Terry announced.

"Tell us about him!" Commanded Peter.

"OK. Here it goes." And Siryn's voice soared out.

"J, James, jousting with a boar
See them wrastle, see them wrangle
It's such an easy chore"

"J, Jimmy, Jungle-king Jimmy,
J, Jono, let's Jam with Jono,
J, Jubes, well, let's paff with Jubes,
J, Jonah Jameson's Journey beans
Hey, let's sing a song about J!" And they all four stretched the last note out for ten seconds. "J!"
