Okay. Let's see if this will make any sense (I know the fic won't). I'm not quite sure where this came from. I stumbled across the lyrics to this Hooverphonic song, and felt they needed an appropriate venue. Of course, the fact that the song is called "Pink Fluffy Dinosaurs" had nothing to do with it. Nope.
I have no clue if I was the first one (I'm not that telepathic). But I do know I was irritating my sisters on the ride home that night with commentary. The episode of Buffy I'm trying to mention is the one they're all stuck in the gas station, they capture the General dude, etc. And he talks about what happens if the Key's blood is spilled.
The Barriers between dimensions would crumble, and chaos would rule.
Now. Picture me, at work. I'm bored, probably stuck on over 20 different fics... And this guy hands me a nifty line to try imagining the What If? possibilites (after all, we know they couldn't destroy the world. Duh. There are a few constants...)
A few minutes into the ponderances, and I'm saying things like, "Someone's been reading Shadowlands." and "This sounds vaguely familiar..."
Shelve the idea for a few months. Long enough for others to come up with the same idea. Long enough for my mind to move on to other things.
Addict me to music. Find me these lyrics.
And watch, as I construct something that has not structure whatsoever. Is vaguely wierd. Has no meaning and no real characterisation.
But I'm still gonna post it.
Warning: Contains minor spoilers for Season Five. ...and much that is apocryphal...

Pink Fluffy Dinosaurs
by ALC Punk!

I will never understand why I didn't win. I should have, you know. I had it all going for me. Great hair, excellent boots. And timing. I had everything.

Electro screens of light
And poppy-colored brights
I'm floating on air
Pink fluffy dinosaurs

The Bronze had been hopping that night. Lights flashing, lots of people dancing. Raccous laughter from one corner of the room. It had all been good.

Tremendously hardcore
I'm floating again
This fake fir place
Won't warm my soul nor face

Memories flash through her mind. Pink sequins and blue velvet. Red hair and a flash of a smile that promised things to come.

But still I'm floating
Again
Hypnosis releases brakes
Make you do things you usually fake

I can feel it, you know. Sense what happened. What could have happened. What didn't.

There's this sense that this is the way it happened and yet I know it shouldn't have. A lucid moment in time that was destroyed.

It makes you float
Again
Those bitten by the wild
Will live on

The Bronze was jumping that night. But they weren't there to see it.

But those who used to bite
Have gone
Golden mirror on the wall
Will make our lives less dull

Scaffolding that reached for the sky, lightning flashed here and there. Wind picked up hair. Blonde, red, dark brown. Horror filled them all.

We'll be floating through the day
All our money's almost gone
But still we live the life we want
We are floating through the day

Her screams echoed into the void as the boundaries between the world cracked and bled like she did. Red drops fell to the ground never reaching it as they were absorbed into the air, distributing chaos.

Those bitten by the wild
Will live on
But those who used to bite
Have gone

I used to be the one. I used to have it all. They used to call me glorious.

Now I'm nothing. The gates between the worlds shattered and the influx destroyed them all.

This void, it echoes.

It will be time soon. Time for me to go.

Disclaimers: Glory, Dawn, the Key, the General, Willow, the Bronze, and anything else mentioned pretty much are property of the dodoheads at Fox. Joss Whedon is the Man, of course. The song lyrics are Hooverphonic's "Pink Fluffy Dinosaurs" I've never actually heard the song, but...

No money is made, only vague amusement is derived. And a bit of laughter.
